Jaguar Land Rover becomes UK’s largest vehicle manufacturerJaguar Land Rover has gone from strength to strength over the last five years, and in 2015 it became the largest vehicle manufacturer in the UK.
In terms of quality, the JLR offering is as strong as it has ever been. Jaguar's new model range is keeping the marque at the cutting edge, with the F-Type, XE and XF all new in the last two years.
The Land Rover line-up is the most advanced it has ever been. Although the much-loved Defender has now ended production, it was on sale throughout 2015 and the two millionth example was auctioned at Bonhams for a final hammer price of £400,000. The new Discovery Sport is winning awards across the motor industry, while the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models provide an ultra-high quality offroad experience. The 4th generation Discovery is still there for the adventurous and the Range Rover Evoque may be one of the most recognisable vehicles on the roads today.
At the end of 2015 that has meant the highest production volume in Jaguar and Land Rover history, with more than 500,000 vehicles produced at facilities around the UK. This makes JLR the leading manufacturer in the country, accounting for just under a third of automobiles produced in Britain in 2015.
These amazing numbers represent more than 300% of the volume of the company when it launched in 2009. The increase in production along with the improvement in product quality and variety of model lines also means an increase in the workforce to make it possible. The employee base has doubled over the last five years to 35,000 at its UK sites, making Jaguar Land Rover a vital component in the UK automotive sector and economy at large.
There's more to come too, with the Evoque Convertible in Spring 2016 opening a new market sector for the brand.
